British Values

British Values help our children learn how to live, learn and play alongside others. We want every child to feel that their voice matters, understand why we have rules, make choices with growing confidence and treat people with kindness and respect. These ideas are part of everyday school life, from sharing resources in play to listening to someone with a different point of view.

Our children designed five characters to help make the values memorable: Dizzy Democracy, Rosie Rules, Leah Liberty, Ricky Respect and Ted Tolerance. We use the characters to talk with children about what each value means and what it looks like in their own lives. As children grow, we encourage them to explain the values in their own words and recognise when they are putting them into practice.

Children experience democracy when they share ideas, vote and help make decisions through our School Council. They learn about rules by agreeing how to keep one another safe and treating others fairly. Through play and learning, they make choices, develop independence and learn to respect other people’s choices too. Assemblies, stories and conversations give children opportunities to explore different families, faiths and beliefs. Our Kindness Ambassadors and community projects provide further chances to show care and respect through their actions.
