Attendance and Punctuality

At Holmer Green First School and Pre-School we endeavour to ensure that your child receives the best education possible. Regular attendance at school helps us to make this possible and is vital for learning to take place.

Children who are absent from school or arrive late can find it difficult to keep up with the learning in the classroom, are more likely to underachieve and can find it challenging to make and maintain friendships.

Absence Procedures

Children should have an attendance figure of at least 95%. In order for parents to be aware of their child's percentage, attendance sheets are sent home at the end of each term. Medical appointments should be made outside of school hours where possible.

The Headteacher regularly monitors pupil attendance and will write to parents if their child's attendance falls below the expected percentage.

If your child is unwell and cannot attend school, please phone the school office and leave a message before 9am. If your child continues to be absent from school, please keep us updated either by telephone or email.

If your child has vomited or had diarrhoea, they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode.  This is in accordance with Buckinghamshire Council's policy and plays an important part in preventing the spread of infection.

Pupil Leave of Absence

Pupil leave of absence request forms are available from the school office. Forms can also be found on our website. Requests must be made in writing, in advance, and are dealt with on a case by case basis by the Headteacher, in consultation with the Governing Body.

Please note, pupil leave will only be authorised during term time for exceptional reasons.

Late Pupils

The main playground doors open at 8.45am and close at 8.50am, pupils must be in school by this time. Children who arrive after 8.50am must be taken to the school office where they are signed in the late book and walked to their classroom by a member of staff. Registers close at 8.50am, children who arrive after this time are marked as late. Pupil's punctuality is monitored regularly by the Headteacher.

Further information can be found in the Attendance Policy.
